I'm guessing because the map calculates influence, rather than simply sovereignty. BoB has so much influence that it overtakes that space even though there's actually nothing there. :-P ---

I've been saving influence maps from various days onto my computer. If I wasn't lazy, I could put them all into a slideshow and see how sovereignty has shifted over time. But I am lazy, so it won't happen. Nyah! ---

Edited by: cal nereus on 02/09/2007 04:35:51 Edited by: cal nereus on 02/09/2007 04:35:02 Triumvirate continues to antagonize some people in both the Alliance and Coalition, while also remaining friendly with some in the Alliance and showing a willingness to work with those from the Coalition. They also show up as neutral to many in the Coalition I think. So, they would be Free Agents yes?
The IAC-FIX conflict is largely an extension of the Great War, with IAC being allied with the Southern Coalition. I don't see any reason to make them Free Agents.
D-L is a free agent? How'd they end up with sovereignty in BoB space?
Invictus has been working with Southern Coalition forces against BoB and BoB's allies, so I'm going to assume that they would fit more in the SOuthern Coalition category rather than the Free Agents category.

Ah okay. Well, visually speaking, it doesn't look as neat. It's awesome for influence of individual alliances and stuff, but when you make one color for a huge blob of alliances together, it doesn't look particularly appetizing. It's like seeing three or four slugs wrapping around each other. The other map that already has powerblocs is visually more appealing for the purpose of showing powerblocs, but the information is usually incorrect in that map. Which is why the Influence map is so much better, but it doesn't look right when there are only four colors like that. It's just a visual nit I like to pick perhaps.
Edit: Actually, I think a big reason for my distaste with the visuals is that the colors are solid. In the other map they are transparent except at the borders. More futuristic and hurts the eyes less. But I don't think you can make that happen with this map, so I don't suppose I'm helping.

Erm, well, I was sorta hoping you'd make them less solid to be honest. Right now, they are so solid that it looks like something a dirty hippie would have plastered on their T-shirt. I'd prefer more transparency so the color itself stands out less against the background, while each color remains distinctive from each other.

Edited by: cal nereus on 04/09/2007 03:30:23 The bloc map still doesn't look too good. You may want to consider redividing up the blocs into its constituent alliances, with the only change being that their colors are coordinated. IE: all the blue-hues would be BoB and its allies, all the red-hues would be RedSwarmFederation and friends, etc. The colors would need to be slightly different, but similar to tell that they are part of the same bloc. And I would prefer it if the borders were highlighted, to take focus away from the systems and towards the borders. Only for the bloc map of course. In an influence map, the opposite is preferable.
Edit: That aside, I'm really happy that you're working on this. And yay, vacation-proof map!

Thanks for everything Verite. :)
Looks like old RA beachhead that vanished has returned in the form of a Goonswarm beachhead. Everything else seems to be the same as usual. ---

Th region names are very helpful.
The power bloc map looks visually appealing. The only area of improvement I can find is the power-bloc membership, but as you've already pointed out, you know it's currently incorrect and it's a low priority anyways. So I won't bother saying more on that. All in all, the power bloc map looks awesome. Thanks so much. ---

A lot of alliances that have sovereignty in 0.0 don't have an influence blob because, as the influence is currently calculated, they don't have enough in comparison to their neighbors. Notice that the other influence map (yay, we have two of them) looks slightly different because the influence is calculated differently. It's important to remember that these maps are not sovereignty maps. ---

Actually, I see Atlas Alliance on the map. Your name is green, and is sorta on top of Dark Matter Coalition. You guys are just a little too close is all. ---
